2010 Open Hunt

ani digger

Another year of preparation and hard work has paid off for our club resulting in another very successful hunt. The day started cloudy and cool but the sun managed to break through most of the clouds and we had a sunny but hazy day. The temperature managed to climb to the high 70's to low 80's but the continuous sea breeze kept everyone cool and in good spirits the entire day.

There was a variety of food to be bought by those who decided not to pack a lunch. Others that brought their own food had a choice of eating in their vehicles or in the shade of a big old tree on the grassy knoll overlooking the beach. There were benches for those that wanted them and plenty of green grass to spread out a blanket and kick back and relax.

We had three hunts covering the entire area of the southern side of Onset Beach. Our club President, Gordie, was the M.C. for the day, and our Hunt Master was club founder and Treasurer Roy. There were plenty of hidden coins and prize tokens in the sand to go around for everyone. Even those new comers who were doing the hunt for the first time enjoyed themselves.

We had some really great prizes this year for those who were lucky enough to have found the buried tokens. There were three metal detectors given away, a Garrett Ace 250, Tesoro Silver µMax, and a White's Coinmaster. We would like to thank our club founder and Treasurer Roy G. for obtaining these prizes for us.

There were also tokens buried for three very special Treasure Chests. These are not any ordinary treasure chests as they were hand made by two of our club members Jeannie and Earle. Thank you Jeannie and Earle for your generous donation. Each chest contained treasure of coins, folding money, Silver Dollars and Golden Dollars. What treasure chest would be complete without having jewels in them so there were also Saphire and Garnet jewels in the treasure chests.

Lastly we would like to thank Outdoor Outfitters for their donation of a Long Handle Digger.

We'd like to thank all those that participated in this years hunt and we hope to see you back again next year. There were over 80 participants ranging in age from 10 years to 82 years old. There were great combinations of people that came this year. We had single people, grandfathers and grandsons, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters. We even had entire families participate in the search for individual treasure.

Soon we will be starting the preparations for next years hunt, but before that happens we would like to thank all the members who worked in any way and in many ways to help bring this years event to its great conclusion. Thank You for your help.

Here are the pictures of all those lucky enough to find the tokens for this years major prizes. Click any of the pictures for a larger view.
